Something small and beauty...

... is Bibelot, 

the next Another Year of Schnibbles project.

Look, I have already prepared for it...

 ... the fabrics have been selected, first blocks sewn, but there is one thing that worries me.

What would be it's use? Shall it be just a small quilt for a doll or baby... 

or a wall hanging...

or would it be only small decorative... cushion?

Hmm.. I'm thinking...
perhaps you almost see the smoke, which is surrounding me ;o)

There is an empty place on this wall... hm... (look, more smoke;o)

Maybe I need to ask this from Fenix!

Jotain valmista. Osa3 - Intro

Jotain valmista -suunnitelmani mukaan maaliskuussa pitäisi valmistua Lynette Andersonin My Garden tilkkutyö, mutta päätin vaihtaa sen tilalle Anni Downsin Gardener's Journalin. Se oli listassani heinäkuun kohdalla. Vaihdon tein siksi, että GJ eräänä lauantaina vain erehtyi menemään Berninan tikattavaksi ;o), joten se on lähempänä valmistumista. Ja onhan GJ:n taival muutaman kuukauden pidempikin.

At first my plan was to finish Lynette's My Garden in March for the Jotain valmista joka kuukausi - challenge. But then I decided to change it to the Anni's Gardener's Journal. I made the exchange, because of what happened on one Saturday... I found it under Bernina's walking foot ;o), so it's closer to completion than My Garden. And after all, the journey of GJ is a few months longer.

GJ tarina alkoi vuonna 2010 huhtikuussa, jolloin osallistuin Chookybluen vetämään Stitch-a-long (SAL) -ryhmään. Tuolloin myös valmistui ensimmäinen blokki G.

 The journey began in April 2010, when I attended Chookyblue's Stitch-a-long (SAL) group. Then I also finished the first block G.

Ja siihen se sitten tyssäsi... 

Mitä tapahtui? Miksei GJ valmistunutkaan SAL -aikataulussa?

And then the flow stopped ...
What happened? Why it's not completed on time?

Yksi syy oli varmaan turhan kunnianhimoinen tavoitteeni tikata se käsin... 

ensin odotin kevään valoisia iltoja, sitten tuli kesähelteet, sen jälken taas syksyn pimeät illat... 

Toinen syy oli ehdottomasti kokemattomuus... suoraan sanoen pelotti aloittaa käsintikkausta!

Kolmas syy oli seuraavaankin SAL -projektiin, Tis The Seasoniin osallistuminen.

 

One reason was probably too ambitious goal stitch it by hand ...
First I was expecting bright spring evenings, then became a summer heat wave, then dark evenings of autumn...
The second reason was definitely a lack of experience ... frankly, I was scared to start a hand quilting!
The third reason was, I took part in the next SAL-Project, Tis The Season.

Viime tapaninpäivän konttailin lattialla ja sain sen vihdoinkin harsittua kiinni vanuun ja taustakankaaseen! Etsin lisää rohkeutta aina tammikuun puoleen väliin, kunnes tartuin neulaan ja aloitin... mutta eihän siitä mitään tullut! Juuri ja juuri sain keskiosan taloa ympäröivät kehykset tikattua...

Last Boxing Day I spent on the floor and I finally got it basted! I waited for more courage. In the middle of January I took the needle and started ... but it didn't work out! I just quilted the frames, which surround the house...

   ... joten Bernina sai hoitaa loput!
 ... so B finished the job!

Tällä viikolla sain ruudukkomaiset, suorat tikkaukset tehtyä... 

... ja edessä on kanttauksen ompelu ;o)

This week, I got straight quilting done...

... the binding is ahead ;o)

Olen iloinen, että osallistuin Maikin tilkkujen Jotain valmista joka kuukausi -hössötykseen. Sen myötä olen saanut paljon ryhtiä tilkku- ym. käsityöharrastukseeni.;o)

I am glad, that I attended Maikin tilkkujen Jotain valmista joka kuukausi -hoopla. As a result, I've got a lot of the effectiveness for my hobbies ;o)

AYOS (Another Year of Schnibbles) continued with Carrie's pattern, ISTH or i.s.t.h.

If you remember, at first I was skeptical of the color combination - blue and red.

Then I sewed first block - or in fact - found matching and pleasing fabrics for it. So I decided: I really need a new Christmas tablerunner for my table! If it'll be a nice one, then I'll use this pattern again and sew the other tablerunner for the present.

 

 After sewing four stars I was pleased with the length... but then began 'the problems'.

What about the borders?

Shall I make the checkerboards as in the original pattern or shall I borrow the idea, which I saw at Sinta Renee?

Shall I use the stripe fabric or not?

While I was thinking of those hard questions... it was better do something else!

The second OPAM - finished ;o) And matches nicely with my mother's blouse!

The knitting 'cleaned up' my head. I made decisions :-)

... and before I realised the whole tablerunner was finished!

PURTAP-purrTAP, well-done!!!

I'm pleased and not skeptical anymore... blue and red are spectacular together - atleast with brown ;o)

Progress in My Favorite Things

Happy and joyful winter day...

This week I focused on Stitch-a-long blocks for My Favorite Things quilt. February blocks: an ice cream, a hot chocolate and a good book are now appliqued, stitched...

... and all ten blocks are pieced together - almost! 

Annie's quilt has all the sashing stripes cream or other light colours, but I'm using grey for the outer part of sashings. Now I'll take a small break with it, but only until March.

She asked me to show my Granny's blanket ;o). 

I crocheted it at early 80's. Therefore it's very colorful, which is not typical for me. The yarns are mainly man-made fibers, therefore it's also quite heavy. So I haven't used it much.

I have dreamed of crochet a new blanket...

... but what colour?

Maybe this color?

But I'm not sure, if the variegated yarn is good for grannies...   

What do you think? I would love to hear YOUR opinion.

Happy Valentine's Day

Jotain valmista. Osa2 - in February

For February I choosed an easy project:  a small tablerunner, which I started last year. It was only without quilting and binding...

I decided it would be finished early in February... so I have time for the other projects...

Is the middle of the month early? ... probably not... but...

I thought hard how shall I do the quilting. 

Shall I stay in the ditch or do the free motion?

If I do free... what kind of pattern?

Suddenly on one evening I realized it!

 

 I'll sew some kind of petal shapes on each twister... 

I'm pleased, but as you see, I need more practise with the free motion Q ;o)

 

Now the Easter may arrive!

But before that...

 

... the quilting will never end...

Oh, the neck is aching and I need a break and a hot chocolate!

Freezing Weekend...

... and it was better stay at home and inside at the warm place...

 This is the box where I store in the most treasured (= YLI silk) threads for applique. Lately I have opened the box more often than usually... because of My Favorite Things blocks... and there is piece of fabrics waiting for the other applique project. They caused extra 'disturbance' so much, that yesterday I decided to sew them there, where they belong... although I should have done something else... And I was also worried about them... I didn't want to them having crispy edges...

 So here is...

 the third My Whimsical Garden block!

I'm not quite pleased with the flower on the right... especially the fabric of the leaves is all too restless.

But first I have to make some blocks more...

until I'll replace it with the other fabric... or more precisely with a new block.

There is totally 20 blocks in the original MWG quilt, but I'm not sure yet, how many I'll do...

I'll make them only when I need fresh colours... so this project will be a real WISP!

Well, now back to the world of filet laces ;o)
