The Flu...

has had ME in it's grip this past week...

and I'm still keeping more a handkerchief in my hand than a needle...

In my sewing room is heard...

 more male voices than voice of the sewing machine.

But yesterday I forced myself to sew at least one block this week!

 It's block eleven of 2012 Designer Mystery called 'County Fair', designed by Julie Comstock.

When I look the block closely, I clearly see a new pattern for my Starry -quilt.

ATsCHIII!!!! 

Oh, I'm so sorry!!!

Luckily we are not now face to face... and you are safe behind your own desks...

I have found a lot of new inspirations in these two books...

Tomorrow I'll try to spend some time 'in Pumpkinville' ;o)...

I'm now appliqueing block six...

Sunday Drive

... but before we start the engine, I show you one more star.

If the Patchwork star was one of my favorite stars, I think the Nested star is the other.

 Oh, I love this star pattern!!!

Except I did not remember to pay enough attention to the direction of a lighter green fabric. Damn...Simpura sentään! Oh well, no one is perfect...

Now... Are you ready for 'a drive'? It's only a short one...

... but looks very curvy and complex! 

What do you think, did I handle it?

 Wov! So many crossings on the way!

Have to be careful with the direction of the pressings...

Luckily I have my own ironing-inspector ;o)... Fenix, advice me immediately, if I press the seams wrong!

Oh no, he has fallen asleep!!! Well, I need to cope alone...

After a few hours of 'hard' work... öhöm... drive ;o)

I saw it finished...

It's a block called 'Sunday Drive', 

designed by Polly Minick & Laurie Simpson.

The block is tenth block of the 2012 Designer Mystery BOM. This mystery ends in May and a new mystery begins in June. More of these Designer mysteries you can read here.

Pumpkinville BOM Rehab

I spent almost the whole Sunday with block five of Pumpkinville...

not all the day, only three or four hours... 

 ... appliqueing the pumpkin houses...

... and preparing the pumpkin cars for the row block.

Now there is all the small things (lot of windows, doors..) ahead...

maybe I have to focus more on Pumpkinville this week;o)

Again happy stitching...

BOM Rehab

Perhaps I must close the internet connection to the quilting pages....

You can't never guess, 

but I sewed a block for the NEW BOM... new bom... yes, you read it right!... NEW BOM!

a new BOM is the Aurifil Designer of the Month.

Designer of January was Erin Russek and I'm an avid fan of her appliques! So how could I resist to make her block, Jumping Jack Flash?

There is a star... 

and it's size is 12" x !2"... 

so it may fit in well with the other star blocks...

Do I explain now too much my addiction for the BOMs?

... and IF I post my block to the flickr.com group, I might win some marvellous Aurifil threads!!!

No way, I'm not gonna be outside of when this fun happens!

Besides Jumping Jack Flash block was very quick and easy to make...

... because I found those half square triangles, which I used, from this scrap bag. These HSTs are all side products from the Designer Mystery 2012 blocks. I'm glad that I have spared them. The smallest HSTs are about 1 1/2".

Past week I focused also to finish block four for Pumpkinville.

 TADAA!

I'm still well in my own schedule! The Pumpkins will be on my wall in the next autumn;o)

And specially for you I'm taking picture of all the blocks...

Fenix, you can't sit there! No one else sees nothing!

In Pumpkinville is a lot of windows and making them the same size... is VERY hard job!

I haven't yet succeeded... but I improve all the time ;o)

BOMholic is Back ;o)

So it happened

that I had to spend some money other things than the fabrics...

It was really odd feeling to live without computer, but at the same time I noticed how much time it spares.

Would it be wiser to do something else than sit front of this new machine?

Is it only a waste of time?

Although I had a good opportunity to sew and do everything else... I didn't do.... not at least much, which would be of worth mentioning.

Jotain valmista joka kuukausi - työni on tässä kuussa syksyinen Kurpitsa -liina. Mallin on suunnitellut Cheryl Gunn. Aloitin sen viime syksynä ja se on ensimmäinen KONEapplikaatio työni. Kyllä, luit ihan oikein ;o) En ole koskaan aikaisemmin tehnyt pykäpistoja koneella.

My project in Jotain valmista joka kuukausi -challenge is Black Bird's Pumpkin Patch -tablerunner. It's designed by Cheryl Gunn. I started it last fall and it's my very first one machine appliqued work. Yes, I really mean it ;o) I have never done the blanket stitches by machine before this quilt.

Maybe I have too many times told you that I'm addicted to BOMs. Specifically the BOMs, which are designed by Anne Sutton and purchased from Fat Quarter Shop. I know it well that they takes much of time... and money too... BUT a new BOM Pumpkinville is starting in this Autumn...

... and I think, that time and money, which is spent, is worth!

I only hope, when I gave this quilt to someone, she or he will realize it too!

Oh, Fenix... it's a photography time... without you... I suppose???

But purr-hei, the roof of this house doesn't have a cat!

I nearly finished Raining Cats And Dogs block one at this weekend...

... only the embroideries on the dogs and windows are missing...

I'm Building a House...

... veeery slowlyyyy!

It doesn't matter! But does it look wonky house?

Last week arrived the kit of the block #2 for Designer Mystery BOM 2012.

It's always exciting to open the BOM envelope from the Fat Quarter Shop. They pack their letter so that the block model is revealed only when you open the plastic cover too. It's VERY exciting!

And I like this "Mint Julep" -block A LOT!!!!

Here they are both... together.

I was so charmed...

that I continued today with block five of 2011 DM BOM.

It consists of many pieces... and it required a lot of concentration to sew those pieces together correct.
 

 I think I need a break and a cup of coffee...

 

When I came back Fenix was snoring on the ironing board...

yes, really snoring... and loudly!

It's "Vintage Posey"

and all the other finished blocks together.

Hopefully I'll get the house of the block of Raining Cats & Dogs ready in the next week...

Sunday Activities and BOM Rehab Treat

The morning was rainy and cloudy today... 

so it happened that my steps took me to the sewing room...

Does it sound like a miracle? Oh yes, it does ;o)

... and I finally (the pieces of this block were cut few weeks ago) sewed 'Four O'clocks' block for the Designer Mystery 2011 BOM. It's a nice block pattern with small and bigger patches. I think I'll take part in Sinta's BOM Rehab...

I have now totally eight blocks pieced.

By the way, if you take part in BOM Rehab at Sinta's blog in every week, you have four possibilities to win something. I was the lucky fellow in May and Sinta sent me this wonderful book! It's full of inspiration!!!

My evening activity is to knit summer socks and watch tv ;o)

A new BOM

It has been a long time when I last time spent 'quality time' with B.,

but today I sewed first block of the Designer Mystery 2012

With it I'm gonna take part in BOM Rehab in this week.

 

Here is 'Laundry Days' block designed by Anne Sutton

and twelve half square triangles as side product.

I'm so excited about the fabrics!

They are all from Vintage Modern by Bonnie & Camille ;o)

I think I MUST add one more gear...

 there is still wide number of backstitches undone on The Lily of the Valley Fairy!

BOM Rehab (weekend 16)

The past weekend I sewed two blocks for the Designer Mystery 2011 BOM.

Several other participants do this same BOM in Sinta's Rehab

This weekend I decided to do exactly the same way ;o), because the eleventh block arrived last week... AND I just LOVE those Strawberry Fields fabrics!!!!

There is only one block to come, DM2011 BOM will end in May and the next Designer Mystery is about to beginning in June... so if I want that all blocks are ready before the new mystery starts... I have already a hurry, because so far I have sewed only 3 (or 4) blocks.

 The sewed blocks are : 
1. Sweet Pea 2. Promise of Spring 3. Pretty Pansy 4. Rose Buds

I sewed them all in time... almost right away, when they arrived from Fat Quarter Shop. But then as normally happens to me I stayed after and just put the envelopes on the shelf to wait for the future...

But along with BOM Rehab, I thought it would be a good way to get DM2011 back to the track.

In the beginning I planned to make the smaller blocks than in original (that's why the Sweet Pea block is smaller than the other blocks). But the resizing was difficult (the other blocks were more complicated than the first one), so I thought it would be better sew the blocks as it was informed in the pattern.

... on the shelf... there is six blocks waiting...

Maybe I'll sew next two blocks on the next weekend...

... or shall I surprise you with a new BOM???? ;o)

Some progress in Raining Cats and Dogs too...

BOM Rehab (weekend 15)

Last weekend I took out one of the many unfinished BOMs,

Raining Cats & Dogs. 

It's BOM by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs. I ordered it from Fat Quarter Shop and the program is from Noverber 2011 to August 2012.  

I think the purchasing of it is still possible, if you are interested in.

So far I have only made a few appliques on the second block

I ordered it mainly..

... because of the beautiful fabrics. Anne used Puttin' on the Ritz collection by Bunny Hill Designs and 3 Sister's Etchings collection by Moda. 

A lot of pink, light blue and grey!!!

... and because of cats and dogs!

Can you guess, what she (note: a pink collar) is chasing?

 

 Is she chasing stars?

Or maybe 'more important' things...

 ... like a cat?

 I hope not, because I want them to be a good friends ;o)

There is still much to do before the second block is ready, but I'm not going to rush with this BOM.

I do it whenever I need a pink and grey around... my goal is to have it ready by 2016...

I may show you something else on next Monday ;o)

and you know I have a number of other...

By the way I have to tell you this today...

after previous post in our sewing room began to look more comfortable and more familiar.

I started to sew Sylvia's Bridal Sampler blocks together and it brought back the lost enthusiasm for sewing!

And Fenix conquered the ironing board ;o)

 The first ten blocks together. 

I'm going to sew the rows in two installments, each of which is about 5 x 5.

I think, so far it looks very nice, although all blocks are not exactly the 6 1/2" x 6 1/2 ".

And the last week BOM Butterfly Garden's blocks are all sewn together ;o)

Oh, what a lovely feeling, when you have got Q -vitamin!
