... in this month our SAL (= Stitch along) project is a sewing case. It's designed by Anni Downs and the pattern is in her Some Kind of Wonderful book.

So far I have pieced the both of the side panels.

 As usual I alter the pattern a bit... I English paper pieced the other panel...

Oh yes, I was able to use hexagons on SAL project... AGAIN ;o)

Now I'm waiting that I'll get a double-sided fusible fleece or something to have it finished in time... I ordered it through the internet.

 While waiting for the fleece to come...

 ... I sewed a bit smaller (3" x 4") and simpler 'bag'.

It's a coin purse to four years old boy.

A orange elephant... with a L -letter is quite cute... isn't it?

At least it was fun to cross stitch...

Hopefully the fusible fabric will arrive in the next week...

Take It Easy...

... and sew Aurifil's 2013 Designer block of August designed by Jill Finley!
The song, which inspired her to design this block is Eagles'... Take It Easy.
By the way I found a nice presentation of it on Youtube, filmed in 1972 California Jam. In the end of that video is a charming little guitar player... cute;o)

The precious stone, which inspired me to choose colors for my block... is a garnet.
The color scale of garnet is very large: red, yellow, brown, green. They occurs in almost all colors except blue. Out of those color shades I chose red ones...
and if you look the photo closer...
you'll notice I have used more than one background fabric.

The other reason why I decided to make my block 'look like' a garnet...
... was that I read it's name is the most likely derived from the Latin word granatus (=grain), which also refers to the typical structure of the garnet.
I think Jill's block remind me of grain too...

Do you want to know something about garnet's power stone features?
Garnet is said to increase the health, loyalty, imagination and balance the flow of energy. It is also said to protect the bad dreams.
... so if you have a garnet you can... take (it) easy... even at night...

... of course another possibility is to change the colors / fabrics of some blocks...

... I got such a crazy idea to change the pattern of Lincoln...

Lincoln is July's Vintage Schnibble.

First I decided to change the lay out...

... my Lincoln will be a christmassy tablerunner.

Then I decided to embroider few snowflakes among the stars...

... there will be fewer rail fence blocks on my Lincoln.

Or can I at all call it as Lincoln?

These new ideas led to this...

... that I have nothing to show on the parade of Schnibbles... tomorrow!

I'm feeling sad :o(

BUT I'm sure I will be happier, when I'll see all other finished schnibbles ;o)

SAL -project in July...

... is Chilly Penguins Christmas Bag from Natalie Bird's Tis the Season -booklet.

Because I wanted to make more summery than wintery bag, I changed the pattern of the stitchery.

But what would it be?

One morning I found my 'little' cat sitting under petunia flowers...
... then I got the idea to use a cat stitchery from Natalie's Red Home book.

 Aren't they both quite cute in the middle of flowers?

The finished size is 9" x 11" + straps, which are about 20" long. It's a perfect size for a bag in which you can carry your small knitting works... for example woollen socks ;o)

... with flower regards!!!

Chain, Chain, Chain...

... I might be weak, yeah...

Aurifil's Designer of July is Laurie Simpson
and the rock and roll song that inspired her quilt block is Aretha Franklin's Chain Of Fools.

Last time I wrote my addiction of BOMs, so what can be the best way to heal than do a BOM block;o)
and this is the funniest part of this tale...
When I looked for a color theme (= a new precious stone) for my block, I found out that amethyst is a perfect power stone to have when you fight against dependencies!
So I hurried up to my stash boxes searching for fabrics from lavender to purple...

First I found this really deep purple flower print...
and look! It's a fabric by Minick & Simpson!

... chain, chain, chain...
My doctor said, "Take it easy"...

I followed the order of song's doctor, so I took easy...

... and I hand pieced the block - all other parts except cream-colored corner pieces, which I sewed by machine. It was my first time to hand piece such a large block, 12" x 12" finished.

... chain, chain, chain...

After very relaxing hand sewing moments...

...here's my amethyst-colored Chained Star!

By the way amethyst is also believed to repel a negativity and create a peaceful environment. I think the amethyst block is definitely a splendid addition for my precious stone quilt!

BOM-holism...

... is it serious?

Maybe it is in that case, when you start a new BOM - again and again - even if you haven't finished the old ones!!

BUT who can resist the BOM, which is made of  'Avalon' , the newest fabric range of Fig Tree Quilts.

Here is the first block of 2013 Designer Mystery BOM. It is designed by Joanna Figueroa. She is also the lady behind 'Avalon' ;o)

My conscience began to bother me when I got #1 "Strawberry Picking" block ready... so much that I took up 2011 Designer Mystery blocks, which I had so far sewn. I found nine blocks...

Is this a slight sign of recovery?

There is three block patterns, which I didn't like enough. So back then in 2011 I decided to sew only nine blocks for my mystery quilt...

BUT there is ONE or two block patterns, which I like a LOT!

And because I have 'leftover' fabrics...

today I decided to sew more - at least one - of this kind of block. The block is called "Layered Daisy".

There is lot of pieces... so I'm not quite sure how long my enthusiasm will persist...

Well, I have now TEN 12" x 12" blocks;o)

Satu, maybe you should look for a clinic, which heals the bomholistic! Because I rather sleep on the finished quilt...

Maybe we should talk about else now...

The next vintage schnibbles is not 'Plan C', which I secretly dreamed of...

... but it's 'Lincoln'. 

If you have Carrie Nelson's Another Bite of Schnibbles book, you will find the pattern there.

I love sewing those stars!

The finished star blocks are 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". They are made with a triangle corners -method. Carrie used the same method in this pillow pattern, but she is calling it the connector-corner method.

 For making one star, you will need...

1 star center piece - 2 1/4" x 2 1/4"

8 star point pieces - 1 1/2" x 1 1/2"

From the background fabric... 

4 rectangles - 1 7/8" x 2 1/4"

4 squares - 1 7/8" x 1 7/8"

Draw a diagonal line from the corner to corner on the wrong side of star point squares. Place it on the corner of rectangle. Stitch along the marked line and trim. Repeat until you have stitched four star point units. The seam allowance where the two triangles overlap is wider than 1/4"...

 So the accuracy of star points is not so relevant today;o)

As you see I'm quite addicted to sew these small quilts (=Schnibbles) too... even I haven't yet finished the previous ones.

Should I search for a help?
