Everyday Chores

Aug. 28, 1862 Mary Austin Adelia Wallace
wrote in her diary

I painted in the four noon, went blackberry picking in the afternoon.

Aug. 28, 2009 I wrote in my diary

I picked up late in the Friday evening some fabrics for the next CWD block. And on that journey I met 'a coon';)

Aug. 29, 1862 Mary continued

Choring around, fetching water for the Leach.

Aug. 29, 2009 I continued

I was at work 6 hours and in the evening I had a little time to sew. Of course Fenix was very helpful as usual;)

Gathering wood and making soap.

Today also at work 6 hours and after that finished the block 104.
Fabrics:
- brown is Judie Rothermel's Sturbridge Village Browns
- tan is from Andover Fabrics (I don't know the name of the line)
- white is bought from Fabric Shack (I don't know the name of the line)

On tan fabric there is hint of the blackberry juice... Do you agree with me...? ;))

Yesterday I also sewed one make-up pouch (my one and only OPAM in this month). And it's really finished, although it's still unfinished in that picture.
Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it in the evening... and today it was too late, because early in the morning it was given as a present to a sweet young lady. But if you look closely the photo of resting Fenix on the cutting mat, you will see the finished pouch behind him...

I'm leaving now...
I wish you all extremely creative week!

Happened Today;)

Early in the morning I started my day with DJ blocks. An easy ones;)))

That Kathy's Cake -triangle has been on my sewing desk almost two weeks unfinished and finally... it's finished. I must give myself a medal... just joking... maybe I have looked too much World Championships from Berlin (athletics). There is tomorrow a BIG Day... men's javelin... Hopefully we'll see a good competition between Finns and Andreas Thorkildsen;) Oh I want to guess; the winner is...

I choosed fabrics for my first Stitcher's Angel project...

I'll think my bag is FULL of Sweet Roses...

It will be a perfect gift bag for someone special person... who loves yellow roses... and who has birthday in September...

I have felt still some sadness, there has been rough times also at my work lately... so I definitely needed something new to my life on this weekend.

Although earlier this summer I desided to start this Autumn House project (Anne Sutton's pattern) on my last summerholiday week in September. I couldn't resist it anymore, when I yesterday saw those orangish rowan-berries on my journey to the work. I rushed to home and started to select the fabrics... I'm beginning with block number seven.

Anne has added a perfect quote from Georg Eliot on the first page of the pattern sheets...

- Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.

I wish you all creative weekend!!!

I found - again - my Wish Quilt stitcheries and continued with them.

Furthermore I finally decided to use these fabrics. There is two gorgeous Christmas line, Glace from 3 Sisters (Moda) and Roses de Nöel from Robyn Pandolph, which I'm gonna use. The original Bronwyn Hayes's quilt was made different shades of reds and cream / brown, but I think I'll add some green and perhaps a little blue to my Wish Quilt.

What else I have done recently?

I have sewed one Sylvia's Bridal Sampler block per week with other SBS quilters.
Week after week it's getting more and more interesting. I'm really pleased with my fabrics and those dusty shades are so adorable. The fabrics are mainly different Mary Rose collections by Quilt Gate.

Then I have tried to catch up the That Quilt group... but I have been quite lazy sewing my DearJane.

... so I'm still behind the group - 3 blocks and 3 triangle.

In the previous post I told you something about our postman... He / she has been busier than me;)

Look what I got from Hanne. A lovely stitchery pattern from Birdhouse, one block from Sunshine Frolics quilt.

Thank You, Hanne!

You gave me a plenty of sunshine;) and also happiness ;)))

Fenix is sending some purrs to Rusket, too...

The other parcel which I got last week was this fat quarter packet from Fat Quarter Shop. It's Authentic coll. by Sweetwater (Moda). The prints are gorgeous and very tempting! Hm... now I must find a perfect pattern...

... and of course find some time to fulfill my quilting plans and dreams...

Happy and thrilling week to every one!
Especially to you who will participate in Stitcher's Angel 2009 swap...
Let's enjoy every moment! Together;)

Full Pay

It has been a while since we last met... and

I promised you the next Civil War Diary Quilt block... today... on the 14th of August...

...and as you see I had a good assistant, who helped me to discover how to make the block;)
Actually he is also right now helping me to write this note...

In August 1862 Susie King Taylor wrote in her diary

The first colored troops did not receive any pay for eighteen months - A great many of these men had large families - the government decided to give them half pay, but the men would not accept this. They wanted 'full pay' or nothing. (quotes from R. Young's CWD quilt book)

Block 97. Full Pay

My fabrics are: green is from Renee Nanneman's Itsy Bits collection, red is from Bonnie Blue Basics by Paula Barnes and I still don't know the manufacturer of the cream fabric, but I bought it from Fabric Shack, which is one of my favorite quiltshop in the net.

There is 81 tiny squares (about 1,5 cm x 1,5 cm) in the block. And I decided to cut out of my fabrics about 3,1 cm strips and sew them together. Easy;), but it still took almost three hours to finish it... maybe the one reason why it took so long, was my very helpful mate;) He really enjoyed those colourful strips and we had a good time together...

And I'm glad that you too shared this tale with us!

PS. We (= Fenix and I) have sewed and stitched some other blocks too recently...
I'll try to show more of them soon...
also our postman has been busy lately;)
But now the bed is waiting for me... I have a working day tomorrow :(
Hopefully I'll get a full pay;)))
