Huggermugger...

.. not quite, but as you can see, in a sewing room my working has not been well-organized.  There is several different projects going on... may I say all too many...

I don't know why, but I just can't decide, which one of the progressing work is the most important. Isn't it peculiar?

Maybe the reason is that I "HAVE" to knit those socks!!!

But there is also a huge hugger-mugger on the upper shelf...

Well, at least I sewed the two last blocks of Virtual Quilting Bee. I even surprised myself, because I sewed them all and in schedule ;o) BRAVO me!!!

Virtual Quilting Bee blocks #15 and #16.

The blocks passed also the inspection of Fenix... huh!
Now I have to think about the layout...

... actually I have already cut the pieces for extra star blocks. I need ten star blocks more... therefore I really have one idea of the layout.. but that idea means that this top is not ready yet... there is still muuuuch work!
Hopefully THAT doesn't mean that I won't ever finish this quilt either.

I wish I would have a better ability to organize my quilting hobby...
... or maybe I only prefer on the way than arrive...
Oh, what nonsense I'm talking again.... where the needles are?

I wish you a SUPERlovely Sunday!!!

Virtual Quilting Bee...

... is progressing purr -well!

... although those stupid yarns are keeping you pur-very busy in these days...
actually I don't really understand why she's playing so much with the yarns nowadays... I would pur-prefer fabrics... and why she keep them  all on the upper shelf... out of my reach...
purr-very strange behavior from her ...
Purr -KROOH!!!

Don't worry, Fenix, we will sew more soon!

I just have found some delicious new yarns lately... and I want to see what kind of socks they become...

But few words about Virtual Quilting Bee...

So far we have got patterns for thirteen blocks...

... and I have sewn them all!
I have used the Fat Quarter bundle of Beach House by Blackbird Designs. I like the variety and easiness of these blocks. They are finished 8"x 8". In the future I'm planning to sew more of those flower star blocks (second block from the right in the top row).

I think they are very good base for the cottage style quilt... or something...

Lopuksi Sukkasato -uutisia!

Ensimmäiset perunat on nostettu...

... aloitin pikku Rosamundilla...

... muutamat muut sukat on myös jo luotu;o)

Niistä yhdet on Mysteerisukat, joiden ohje löytyy täältä.

Itse en ole lainkaan varma olenko tulkinnut ohjetta oikein... mutta jos menee vikaan niin näistä tulee sitten muunneltu oma malli;o)

Mukavaa viikonloppua - Funny Weekend !!!

Stars

After two weeks break I sewed four stars for my starry quilt today.
I tried to focus on Pinwheel stars... but there is only two pinwheels and one... odd... variation of it.
Do you remember last week's Designer Mystery block 'County Fair'? Then I dreamed of doing a star variation of it...

... and now it's here;o)... the biggest star on the left.

If you like to sew it, I give you cutting instructions for the middle part of the star. The points of the star are made same way as in the Basic Sawtooth Star pattern.

Fabric A: cut two 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" squares
Fabric B: cut one 3 7/8" x 3 7/8 square
Fabric C: two 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares
Fabric D: cut one 3 7/8" x 3 7/8 square
Fabric E: two 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares

Oh, maybe it's better that I give you also some sewing instructions?

First draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the Fabric A squares. With right sides facing, layer one Fabric A square with a Fabric B square. Stitch 1/4" from each side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the marked line. You will get two A/B units, which should measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2". Repeat this with Fabrics A/D.

Now you should have four HST units on your sewing table ;o).
By the way... I pressed all the seams open.

Then draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the Fabric C and Fabric E squares. With right sides facing, layer Fabric C with Fabric A/B unit and Fabric E with Fabric A/D unit. Pay close attention to the direction of the Fabric A/B and Fabric A/D units. Stitch on the drawn line and trim 1/4" away from the seam. Don't throw away those trimmed pieces! You can sew the middle part of 8" star of them!

Now you should have two Fabric A/B/C and two Fabric A/D/E units, which should measure 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".
Sew those units together... you see assembling from the photo above.
Tadaa!
You have now sewn the middle part of the star...
should we call it as a variation star of 'County Fair'?
Oh my, there is many little stars undone...

What else I have done...
Virtual Quilting Bee continued last Friday... ... with Going Dutch block #4.

I like the other blocks, but somehow the third block is not my favorite. It's so different than the others...
if I tell you the true, I regret now that I used the blue Fat Quarters of Beach House to it.

I also got ready the fifth block of Pumpkinville BOM...
and started to applique the row of the pumpkin cars;o)

Now I have updated my doings... what is going on there at yours...?

I WISH you A CreAtive WeekEND!!!

Stars...

... but first other things.

Now all the Mill Girl's blocks are sewed...
(if you remember my all is 16 blocks)

... and we are thinking of a quilt assembly - sashing and border.

Last Wednesday was a special day for me ;o)
and I got a special delivery from Germany.
In these cutely wrapped parcel was...

a very useful sewing bag
(look! handy pockets outside of the bag)
and
a cutest embroidered heart ever!
THANK YOU, my friend Katrin! You are a treasure too!!

And then... the newest stars!

Two new stars for the Oh, my Stars quilt...

... the bigger star is 12" Woven Star, the smaller is 4" Quattro Stagioni Star.
I sewed them both by following the instructions carefully and this time I didn't find errors...

Yesterday Virtual Quilting Bee continued and we got a new block pattern .

Block #2 is named 'Origami Star' and it's designed by Amy Newbold.
You'll find the tutorial of  'Origami Star' by clicking the link above.

Until next time...
Happy Sewing!

Saturday With HSTs

Yesterday when I read the blog posts I came across this Virtual Quilting Bee post.
Yesterday was also the first block tutorial of that bee at Sherri's place.
When I woke up this morning I saw few fat quarters of  'Beach House' on the shelf in my bedroom. Yes, it was not a dream, I really have fabrics in my bedroom too...
Before I notice I had cut fabric pieces for two blocks, which are based on - more or less - half square triangles (=HSTs).

So let this be a HST day...

I followed quite closely Sherri's tutorial...
except I draw two lines on the back of all 6 background squares.

The drawn lines are at the distance of seam allowance from the both side of the corner. I sewed right beside the drawn lines. Thereby the final miniblock is the most accurate. I learnt this method, when I have sewed those green STARS...

Viime aikoina olen huomannut, että saan tarkimmat kolmioiksi puolitetut neliöt aikaiseksi, kun piirrän kaksi viivaa, joista kumpainenkin on saumanvaran etäisyydellä kulmasta. Ja sitten ompelen aivan viivojen vierestä niiden sisäpuolelta.

8" Star Block made of HSTs.
Well, almost... the middle square is just square...
The print fabrics are Blackbird Design's 'Beach House' line...
a few years ago, so it's not a new line.

The second HST based block is...

... the 2012 Designer Mystery Block 'Lakeside Retreat'.
It's the ninth block... three more ahead...

Finally...
Fenix is showing you all the blocks together...

... Oh, except one...

Happy stitching(?) Sunday to You!!!!
