Sad Fate

June 30, 1864 Isabella Buchanan Edmondson wrote in her diary

Well, we have managed to exist through another terrible warm day...So did I today... and tomorrow there is again another warm day...
And I managed to sew my next CWD block ( 47) in this really sweaty evening...
My fabrics are...
Mrs. March's Collection by Lecien
Farmyard toile by Benartex
Paula Barnes' Bonnie Blue Basics

...Isabella wrote on

We heard the sad fate of two of our friends in Henderson's Scouts, the Yankees hung them near Moscow, - Mr. Bonner and Lt. McConnell. Oh! This horrible, horrible war- our poor boys are looking for a battle every day
and expect to go in under the black Flag...(quotes from Civil War Diary Quilt book written by R. Youngs)

I'll try to be back soon...
but now I must TRY to go to sleep...
early waking in the morning...

Oh, I Sit There, and Count Those Raindrops...

It has been warm lately here in Finland... OVER 25 degrees of Celcius. And it means that in greenhouses (where I work) it's over 30. Not a pleasant working place at this kind of weather....

In the evenings I have been so tired that I let Fenix enjoy the space of my sewing corner...

...and look he really know how to relax!!!

I envy him a little...

BUT TODAY it has been raining all day, and I 'captured' my corner back from him. It might mean that I'm slowly recovering of my recent sorrow moments. But still there is falling few teardrops too...
It's BOW from Sylvia's Bridal Sampler. Block H9 Weathervane. Oh, This story is starting to sound like a forecast...

I also pieced together the next block from Journey of Quilter.

I think tomorrow there will be again sunny and hot day... a perfect day for the stitching;))))

OH NO, the conqueror is arriving... And he is looking quite sleepy too. Maybe I'll give Fenix the keyboard and move myself to...

enjoy this cooler evening.. have a glass of ripasso wine... and JUST RELAX;)))

SEE you...

And THANKS TO you ALL FOR your SUPPORT!
I really need IT!!!

I'm SO lucky to have and know such a sweet person that you ALL are;)))

PS. This time I'll try to answer with email too... And I updated myDJ and SBS charts at sidebar...

This 'Little Girl' Still Blue

Mostly time of tears recently...

Only managed to finish this block 6 of A Tisket, a Tasket ...
and few more DJ blocks...

But it will take some time to recover...
when your husband deside to leave...
after 26 years...

My life is really messy at this moment...
and I feel quite numb too...

BUT I WISH YOU ALL WARM WEEKEND!

Blue is All around Me...

... but not a skyblue. Weather of this midsummer seems to be quite cool and rainy.

I have spent quite hard week, mainly emotionally...
so not much has happened in my sewing world.

And because of this sad week, I was too tired to answer your lovely comments..
I'm so SORRY...

But hey, there is some new blocks...
two Sylvia's Bridal Sampler blocks

F2 Fool's Puzzle
(I have felt like that lately)

AND

L7 Lemoyne Star

I have appliqued June's block of the A Tisket, a Tasket and sewed next three DJ blocks. I'll post pictures of them later.

I hope I'll get soon rid of this blue feeling...
before I forget...
Have a glad Midsummer!!!!

Bidding Goodbye

June 12, 1861 Rebecca Lorraine Richmond wrote in her diary

Francis and Julia Pierce, Mary and I rode out to Cantonment Anderson with Chester Hinsdill this afternoon, to witness the five o'clock dress parade for the last time. It was sad to me, but the soldiers seem to be in the highest spirits...

I was quite busy this afternoon and evening (all kinds of houseworks after work), but somehow I managed to sew this Civil War Diary block number 84... I'm now too in sort of the high spirit;)

... When the men were dispanded, they seemed perfectly wild with excitement, congratulating one another in the most hearty manner, cheering and singing... We conversed with and made adieu to, several of the officers...
(both quotes are from book CWD Quilt written by R. Youngs)

Fabrics I used are: Civil War Anthem by B. Brackman & T. Clothier (brown), Bonnie Blue Basics by P. Barnes (grey), tan is one fabric from Andover Fabrics and I still don't know the range or the manufacturer of the fabric with white tiny flowers on cream.

If you like to see more beautiful CWD blocks or want to read more notes from CWD book, visit at Elin's blog.

Next time (June 30) we will read - again - more sorrowful note from Isabella Buchanan's diary. And the block is 47.

But I'll be back with the other blocks before it...

Cheerful Weekend to you!

Is it Really Over?

It's just unbelievable how quick time flies when you want it come to a stop... .. this time my summerholiday is really ending...
.. but life still goes on;)

NOW back to the past days... What has happened in my world of the quilting?

Last weekend I pieced the next nine blocks of MyDJ together. I hardly manage to sew all three rows together
before 12th of June. I suppose you still remember... Anina is coddling us with a giveaway on that day. But I have completed all the blocks...
I also sewed more new DJ blocks - and if I'm today busy enough and sew one more... It would be an easy one: M12. I have then sewed 100 centerblocks. Again one statistical goal is reached
;)

I almost finished the fifth block of the Butterfly Garden, before Fenix found it a good place take a few hour's nap. It was quite arduous block, many appliqued and embroidered butterflies...

Besides that I decided to continue The Leanne's House with the same fabrics than before... I took very seriously all comments, which I received...

So thank you for your kind support
Simone, Anne Ida and Mai

... and I'm still dreaming of doing it with the other fabrics too;)))

I haven't yet talked about my OPAM goals for June... In this moment I'm planning to work on as many WISPs as possible. There is quite loooong list of them on my sidebar... I think that kind of challenge is large enough... for me... And there is many nice summery projects including all those three quilts designed by Leanne Beasley which I'm making...

So you will see blocks, blocks and more blocks in the near future.... too!
I hope you won't get tired with my quilttales!?!

Summer Greetings

Some picks from finnish nature
It has been few hot day...

here in Finland over 20 - 25 degree of Celcius is really hot;) - atleast in May. Fortunately yesterday it was a rainy and much cooler... so my sewing corner was full of crowd. Recently I have noticed that sewing with a kitten is slightly slower than normally;), but still fun...

Recently I have admired Leanne's House blocks made by two talented lady (Simone and Laila). They have inspired me to discover my three finished block again. I stitched them already two years ago... and when I now watch them I'm not sure whether I like those shades or colours anymore...

...at least not after seeing these fabrics...

There is some fabrics from two collection
R. Kaufman's The Bailey Collection and
Moda's Aviary (3 Sisters).
Especially Aviary is SOOO yummy range of fabric...

... should I start the other LH???? ... or should I wait until the biggest passion for these fabrics will go past???

Yesterday I sewed my first babyJanes together!!! I must admit it was a exciting moment...

I considered it carefully and for a long time... what kind of sashing I'll do... use I one or two colour... where I'll find a suitable fabric...

In the end all difficult questions are resolved...
I decided to sew them together with those tiny squares (1/2" x 1/2"). It means a little bit more sewing, but I think it's worth of it.

In June Anne Ida is choosing the blocks for the BOW of the SBS.
Her first choice was block H3 called Sarah's Choice.

Here is my first "greeting" to you, Anne Ida!

I'm looking forward to next block...

Have a nice and colourful weekend!

The Noble Third

Oh... It's already 3rd of June... Where on earth is my CWD book?
There it is...
a thin layer of dust on... ;)

June 3, 1861. Rebecca Lorraine Richmond wrote in her diary:

This afternoon took place, at Cantonment Anderson, the ceremony of presenting to the noble third... At four clock PM the procession formed in front of Mills and Clancy's Hall in the following order: Brass Band; carriage containing five young ladies who were to present the flag; carriages containing 20 young girls bearing the Testaments and housewives, The Glee Club, consisting of five gentlemen; the Chaplain and family; then carriages of interested citizens. We all wore--- blue dresses with sashes of red and white confined on the right shoulder by a star. (Quote from R. Youngs' book The Civil War Diary Quilt)

White, red and blue...Hmm... Doesn't fit in my plans!

I had - before I read the note more closer - chosen the fabrics and I decided to use a light cream - pink - gray combination. And I know it might look dull, if you use the same print although different colour... But somehow these fabrics matches fine together... I don't know why??? They are from Bonnie Blue Basics coll. by Paula Barnes (gray&pink) and cream is from Quilt Gate's Mary Rose coll.

And I'm going to continue with gray... next time we will meet in the atmosphere of the Civil War on the 12th of June
(Elin, if you read... it's 84;)
