Meeting General Lee

Do you still remember Isabella Buchanan Edmondson?

July 8, 1864 she wrote in her diary

Met with Gen. Lee, who had just arrived on the cars, I am perfectly delighted with him, if I had a heart to lose, I think it would be a danger...
(quote from R. Young's Civil War Diary Quilt book)

Block 49. Meeting General Lee
Fabrics: gray P. Barnes' Bonnie Blue Basics,
cream Quilt Gate's Mary Rose Coll.,
green Lecien's Mrs March's Coll.,
brown is one designed by Jo Morton.

Belle was not lucky in love either. Rosemary writes in her book: Belle was engaged twice, but both relationships ended in broken engagements and heartbreak for her.

Now I really know what she felt then...

Her death at 33 years old was unexpected and suspicious. It was said at her death that she was engaged a third time to marry a Yankee officer.

I'm closing my CWD book...
until I'll open it again on July 26...

Hope to make some sewing tomorrow, I have not touched the sewing machine for weeks now. This block must be one of the few "easy" ones in this book, don't you think? What will be the next one?
Hope you are feeling better. I feel a bit better tonight, having been at hospital again today doing some surgery. But this is indeed a strange summer...
