The Simple Woman's Daybook - week 8

FOR TODAY February 22, 2010

Outside My Window... snow, snow... I'm like a worn-out record player.

I am thinking... charm packs. There is a good pattern at ModaBakeShop - reversible purse sewed from charm packs.

I am thankful for... my head is totally empty. Nothing comes in mind - it was a rough working day...

From the kitchen... Americana Pizza. Yesterday I went to the pizzeria and ordered SO HUGEsize pizza that I'll eat it still tomorrow...

I am wearing... cream cardigan, cream striped blouse and blue outwear trousers

I am creating... oh, I would love to start Le Jardin quilt.

I am going... to go to the library this evening. I wish I could resist to borrow any books, because I have now too little time to read.

I am reading... recently inspiring blogs.

I am hoping... it's not a surprise, but I'm really need of MORE TIME;)

I am hearing... music of the finnish band Kolmas Nainen. Their newest album is called 'Sydänääniä' (Voices of the heart... or something) I have listened that cd a lot lately, because the lyrics are quite touching and so true...

Around the house... a decent noise from the downstairs - some of the neighbour is moving furnitures.

One of my favorite things... pile of the interesting books. I'm not sure, if they are my favorite things after I have moved to the new place. Because the boxes loaded with the books are heavy.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: I'll try to... sew myDJ blocks - maybe two triangle and three blocks. Finish the stitcheries of the second GDO block. My fingers are itching something new... Le Jardin and Moda's Rouenneries fabrics!?!!

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

And I need YOUR HELP
Does anyone know this fabric and range?

I have myself a tiny hunch that it might be fabric from the Sentimental Studios....

HAVE A EXCITING WEEK!

Mail Delivery

February 21, 1861
Hannah Walton Sanders wrote in her diary

Another nice day, rather cold. richard came down this morning expecting a letter from Smythe County, but we were dissappointed...
(quote from Civil War Diary Quilt book / Rosemary Youngs)

In southern Finland the day was rather cold too. The wind blows and it snows. So it was much more convenient to stay inside and sew.

From these fabrics stripes I paperpieced the next CWD block:

white is ? Benartex's Mayflower Muslin ?
dark turqoise is Paula Barnes' Bonnie Blue Basics
cream is R. Kaufman's 'Life's Journey'

Block 35. Mail Delivery

Do you agree with me that it looks like the geeses are delivering the letters?

I was so delighted when I found that Kaufman's fabric from my stash. It made this block almost purrfect... if I may say so...

Now I'm going to take a break from CWD blocks. I'm back with the new one on the week number 10 - blocks are 77 and 78.

Friday Night Sew In...

... has went by now.
We both (Fenix and I) had a rewarding Friday night.
While I stitched the Girl's Day Out stitcheries
Fenix was catching the mouse in his tube.

Evidently the mouse was too sticky to eat, because it was floating in the Fenix's drinking bowl, when I arrived home today. ;))

After I took this photo I continued to stitch and almost finished 'companionship' miniblock. So I'm hopeful I will finish the second block of the Girls Day Out quilt before the end of February.

With this photo...

greetings to the other girls!!!

and sunny weekend...

to you all!!!

Union Soldiers

February 16, 1862. Nancy Elly Moore wrote in her diary

These are the first Union Soldiers we have seen...

I used these fabrics:

purple (lovely print) is Nancy Gere's Civil War VII
red is Paula Barnes' Bonnie Blue Basics
tan is Jo Morton's ????
cream is Quilt Gate's Mary Rose Coll.

The block might look better, if I had used the solid red in the star...

Block 19. Union Soldiers

I must hurry...
... to the yoga...

SEE YOU;)

The Simple Woman's Daybook - week 7

FOR TODAY February 15, 2010

Outside My Window... the SUN IS really shining behind the thin layer of the clouds!

I am thinking... a decision about the new job. Am I ready to take a risk of unemployment next winter????

I am thankful for... the support, which I have got so far. Especially Simone has supported me a lot lately;) I really appreciate it.

From the kitchen... Only one cup of coffee and a little sandwich. I woke up with a terrible headache, so I have had poor appetite this morning. Because of that I decided to take my day-off today, not tomorrow.

I am wearing... blue jeans, tan brown blouse and blue socks

I am creating... blocks, blocks, blocks...

I am going... to shopping with my mother. Only some foodstuffs.

I am reading... Civil War Diary Quilt book. This week I'm going to sew 2 CWD blocks - the first one tomorrow and the next on Sunday.

I am hoping... that I can spend many years with Fenix. Today he is celebrating his first birthday.

I am hearing... relaxing silence...

Around the house... peaceful, but soon we will have one guest.

One of my favorite things... Audrey Hepburn's movies. One of the finnish TV channel is going to show four of her less famous movies on every Sunday. Oh, it's one of my favorite time of the week.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: As I wrote earlier there is two CWD blocks which are on my do -list and on Friday is the night sew-in together. I'm not yet decided what shall I sew....

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

The Simple Woman's Daybook - week 6

FOR TODAY February 8, 2010

Outside My Window... I'm getting to sound BORING, but there is snowing more and more... where is the sun?

I am thinking... a Friday Night Sew-In for February . That monthly sew-in idea was so interesting that I had to join in too. So visit at Heidi's blog - and let's do something fun together on Friday night 19/2. Oh, what shall I make???

I am thankful for... it seems that I managed to fix my mistake from the last week;) I'm HAPPY about that! We are able to plant a new roses in time.

From the kitchen... Chicken with cream sauce and pasta. Slices of mandarin as extra 'spice'.

I am wearing... dark plum blouse, green pants and black socks

I am creating... I just finished the first OPAM of this month- the woollen socks. Yes, I supposed to finish them last month - but... better now than never;)

I am going... to applique one MyDJ block tonight.

I am reading... catalog of the furniture shops. I must think carefully, whether I'll need some new and more useful furniture.

I am hoping... some help to make a decision about my new job.

I am hearing... music from my playlist. There is few songs in Finnish too - so if you want to listen turn on your loud-speakers...

Around the house... quite peaceful, but messy - Fenix has played with his balls today while I was at work, his toybox is now empty;)

One of my favorite things... pattern of the bags. I received today the first pattern of the Bagalicious Club. It's Authentic bag from Sweetwater.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: I'm not planning much for this week, because I'll be at work on the next weekend, but atleast I'll sew my weekly blocks (SBS and MyDJ)

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

UPS, the stripes are not identical...

Texas Rangers

February 5, 1862. Nancy Elly Moore wrote in her diary

As our good Brother was on his way home, he was accosted by the Texas Rangers who had been there the day before and called for dinner after the usual time, the Brethren did not think it best to call on the Sisters, but advised them to go to the Tavern about one mile distant; they did not get dinner here which stirred their ire. They stopped his horses by seizing the bridle reins, Brother Urban asked him why he did so. They replied you did not give us a dinner yesterday. At this junction, there was another soldier on a little ahead, who appeared to be an Officer, by the appearance of the shoulder straps, and hearing the disturbance halted and turned to see what was to pay. The Rangers seeing the halt, cursed Brother Urban at the same time, drawing clenched fist and struck the horse on the head; then dashed off as fast as they could go towards Bowling green, and our good Brother was again at liberty to move on home glad the matter was no worse. (quote from Civil War Diary Quilt book by R. Youngs)

Block 18. Texas Rangers

I foundation pieced Texas Rangers using following fabrics:

green - Mary Rose coll. from Quilt Gate
tan - Plantation 3 by Nancy Gere for Windham Fabrics
white little flowers on white - bought from the Fabric Shack, I don't know the range of it

If you are traveling in the blogworld tonight, you'll find beautiful CWD blocks here. They are all sewed from the CW Tribute fabrics designed by Judie Rothermel.

Have a nice weekend with your blocks...
See you;)

The Simple Woman's Daybook - week 5

FOR TODAY February 1, 2010

Outside My Window... snow, snow, snow and more snow! With a cold wind...

I am thinking... a mistake, which I made at work. Exactly it is the thing, which I didn't remember to order few weeks ago... and now we need it... badly... krr... I'm a lousy foreman, how could I ever dream about new job --- By the way, do you still remember I was at the interview on last Thursday? They offered me a new job and they seemed to have clear plans for me. Now I only have to make a decision whether I approve it or not???? What shall I do... Atleast I made one important decision yesterday, I decided to move to the new lodgings. It will happen within the next two months...

I am thankful for... if I could fix my mistake tomorrow morning.

From the kitchen... just a while ago cup of coffee and slices of the ryebread with the boiled eggs (Fenix is very fond of those eggs) and anchovy.

I am wearing... olivegreen socks, dark blue trousers and blouse with turquoise stripes.

I am creating... I have spared my elbow for the workdays, meaning not so much creating at this moment. Only few stitches in a day...

I am going... to go to the theatre on Saturday evening. There is a play called 'Kaikki isäni hotellit'. It's based on the book The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving. He is one of my favorite author. There is always suprisingly odd happenings and the characters are very personal.

I am reading... mainly I have turned over the leaves of the quilt books. The one of them I'll show you at the end.

I am hoping... more sleep. Due to the job interview I had only one day off last week.

I am hearing... my ears are whistling. Maybe too much dust from the work or something else in the nose...

Around the house... Fenix is trying to disturb my writing by climbing all over the computer and the printer. He had to be alone quite long time today.

One of my favorite things... not atleast SNOW! I'm sick to death of it, although in autumn I waited for it - a lot. It's odd how one's mind is altering.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: sewing weekly blocks (SBS and MyDJ), on Friday evening it's time to open Civil War Diary Quilt book... until then When the Cold Wind Blows book is feast for my eyes

Here is picture thought I am sharing...
