Misleading Dispatch

Jan. 27, 1863 Rebecca Lorraine Richmond wrote in her diary:

... at Hurricane Hospital, near Nashville Mr. Pierce was informed this morning that Thomas died there on the 16th from the effect his wound. It seems that in the dispatch set by George and received on Saturday last, the word "died" was accidentally omitted, thus misleading entirely his friends...
(quote from book by R. Young: Civil War Diary Quilt)

Block 93. Misleading Dispatch

Story behind this block was quite sad... Two days before Rebecca's mood was much more hopeful and cheerful...

You may have notice that I added two new things to my sidebar:
There is a photo of my CDW and how it's going to progress.... AND SURPRISE.... a new BOM...
Gudrun gives us a twelve month pleasure with her BOM...

If I could have 48 hours in a day... Would it be enough???

PS. Our postman delivered me today Tone Finnanger's latest... Tildas Landsted;)))) It's full of sweety summer projects...

Journey with the Civil War Diary Quilt Begins

Jan. 25, 1863. Rebecca Lorraine Richmond wrote in her diary:

Yesterday Mr. Pierce received a telegram from George saying, Tom at the Hurricane Hospital, shall I send him home?

Here is my block 92. Telegram from Rosemary Young's book, The Civil War Diary Quilt. I purchased this book about year ago and since that I have bought some ciwil war or reproduction fabrics... Earlier I have sewed only one block, but I think I'm going to redo it...

So my true Journey with CWD begins today.... (with this block - I send warm hugs and greetings to Elin;))) Thank you for all inspiration!!!)

I have thought a sewing order of the blocks... Is it possible to make it more interesting with the way you choose your blocks? I think I have discovered it now... the way which is all right for me... I'll sew the block by the date... because today is Jan. 25... I chosed the block with the diary mark at the same date... (Does it sound too complicated???) But I'm going to sew only 2 or 3 block in the month... and there seems to be more than three markings in February...

By this method my CWD might be a true WISP;)))))

This week blocks....

Widow's Pane

Oh, nearly the midnight--- Sandman should come soon.....

A New Free Stitchery BOM

UPS...! One more project to...

Have you already visit here and printed your own copy of the block one????

Cheryl has designed a beautiful 10 month stitchery BOM. Birds and all kind of garden motifs always impulses me. Especially in the spring! Here in Finland we have to wait spring flowers growing for a while... the gardens are covered with snow...

I'll store my copies to want to do -files.

Somebunny to Love...

... who can ever resist this cute little bunny?

As you see atleast I couldn't... So surfing is sometimes 'dangerous'... I found it from finnish netshop called Käsityökori.

It's Michael Abrams's design from DMC's Somebunny to love -collection. There is many other as tempting patterns as this in the same collection.

So probably I'll spend some time with cross-stitches in this week.

With XXXXXX
XXXXXXXX... See You;)))

PS. I'm out of one PAY IT FORWARD - pal, if you like to join and be my third... you could leave a comment about your willingness at this post...

They are finished...;)))

Joy's Toiletries bag is done.

I'm pleased that I changed my pattern. I haven't done this kind of toiletries bag before. I was first little worried about bindings (there is a lot of them and especially corners were 'thrilling'), but after all they are quite neat. From now on this pattern belongs to one of my favorites...

THANK YOU, JOY!!!

LOTS OF lovely MOMENTS with YOUR WORKS;)))

A Letter of this Week --- B

My life has been filled with BOM's, BOW and BLOCKS...
Nothing really finished ... yet... (I feel shame...)

Here is my latest Baby Janes: Old Windmill, Enchanted Square (in the middle) and Tour de France. The triangle is Australian Pine.

Monday evening I finished the first block from A Tisket, a Tasket BOM. I cutted snowman from the crafting felt. I'm not sure yet about those buttons...

Perhaps I'll wait for the next block and decide after that... what to do...

Tuesday evening I spent with Jane... with the triangle above. At the same time dreaming of summer nights in Australia... I wish I could see those pines some day...

One of my favorite series in finnish tv is australian drama series The McLeod's Dauhgters. It keeps
me busy to arrive home in time every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to watch it... at 4.10 am.

On Wednesday evening I stitched the Bugs block from Lynette's Noah's Ark. Those creatures are SOOO tiny... I stitched the year 2009 on it, because I have decided to finish it this year.

Anne Ida and Rose has made a very honourable promise... they will start and also finish their projects in this year. So NO UFOS!!! I'm still considering to join this challenge, because I'm not sure whether I can finish every new project which I'll start this year... Some of my new project might be WISPs...

I also sewed SBS BOW - J1 Sawtooth Star. Fabrics are so lovely dusty...

On Thursday evening I came home very late... at 9 am... So no sewings!!!! But on Friday evening I relaxed with Gail's Wish BOM. I embroidered the letters with DMC's Satin thread. It shines a little bit...

This morning I finished two Baby Janes (Enchanted Squares).

And if tomorrow I'm busy enough, I'll finish my first two project in this month;)))

When I visited at Joy's blog, I found a tutorial for toiletries bag. It's very tempting and bigger than Tilda's... So I changed my plans and pattern... I'm not going to sew Tilda's makeup bag, instead I'll sew Joy's toiletries bag. Uuh, I'm such a weathercock...

Maybe tomorrow evening I HAVE SOMETHING FINISHED TO SHOW YOU... until then

GOOD NIGHT; SLEEP TIGHT!!!

"Hunting" for UFO's and WISP's - some Findings

How odd it is!! When it's sometimes really difficult to finish some of your works...

That green cosmetics bag has been unfinished almost 2 years now. The only missing part is a snap fastener, and perhaps few stitch around the flap. I found it when I was searching of UFO's.

Is it so that doing something simply gives me more satisfaction than finishing them...???

In this month I'll try to finish the other bag too. I supposed it would be finished before Christmas, but then... I'll use the pattern from one of the Tilda books.

The next UFO is this blue stitchery, a pattern from Shabby Stitches book. I supposed it would be finished last Spring, but then...

I found other UFO's too, but I'm not going to show them yet. I'll think that these two (three) unfinished projects I'm able to finish in this month...

Keep your fingers crossed for me, please;)))

My list of the WISP -quilts is quite LOOOOOOOONG!

There is Angel Story, Butterfly Garden, My Dear Jane and Blue Jane, Sylvia's Bridal Sampler, Nearly Insane, Nice People and Nice Things, Leanne's House, Journey of a Quilter, Gardener's Journal, Sunshine Blue, Noah & Friends, Noah's Ark, Christmas Wish Quilt, Red Delicious, I Believe in Angels.... It seems there is no end...

And I have started few new projects in this weekend.

I picked up the fabrics for the Summer Holiday Mystery, prepared the first block of the Christmas Wish and I appliqued The Snowman block from A Tisket, A Tasket...

And there is lot of patterns waiting... Ciwil War Diary and Love Letter Quilts, A Kittens Tale, Pockets of Posies and so on....

I continued to sew SBS blocks. After one month break Debbie is publishing one block in a week here. The block of this week was E7 Ribbon Star.

I'm quite pleased with the result. I used one of my favorite fabrics... I don't know the name of the collection, but it's made by R. Kaufman.

Happy moments with your Wisp's and Ufo's...

Quilter's Wonderland

This is amazing!!!!

I visited some blogs and found a LOT of FREE PATTERNS...
And of course I would like to make them all...

First I found this Summer Holiday Mystery from Helen's blog (Do you still remember Stitcher's Angel...)

Helen has chosen so lovely and fresh fabrics to her mystery quilt that I can't resist. So I let her know... I'm in!!! But I haven't peeked... yet...

Somehow I lost my way to Gail's blog... and she is also kindly offering all of us a free 9 months BOM - Christmas Wish... She is doing a little logo for it... So perhaps one or two Christmas quilt will be ready in the next Christmas;)))

And all who likes to stitch, please, visit here. Bea has published the first BOM block from ONCE UPON A TIME... I'm thrilled!!!

The next free BOM I found here. It's a 12 months mystery BOM from Anne. The first block is soooooo tempting... And as always her fabric choices are superb!!!

I'm still "confused" all this fun! It looks that this year 2009 will not be boring at all!!!!

... there is only one tiny limitation... where to find enough time 8-)

...and I have promised to finish one project a month...;)))) So let's "hunt" some UFO's and WISP's...

PS. If someone is stitching Bronwyn Hayes's The Wish Quilt (patterns are in issues vol 9 No 7-9 of Australian Homespun), there is some errors in the instructions. Becky from Homespun magazine posted me a link to the corrections...let me know if you need them too...

Sunny Sunday with Jane

I have catched up with Dear Jane group. Here is my latest block...

So I have now done 80 blocks... Jippii!!!!
At the sidebar you'll find photos of my both Dear Janes.

I have moved my Flickr photos to this blog...

It means that from this day I'll concentrate all my storys from quilting world on this blog... There is no more blog quilttaleswithmusic. I noticed I have no time to write to two blog.

I show you - again - the fabric chart of my "first" DJ. It's easy to choose fabrics by following chart.

Blue Jane might look something like that...

If I'll find enough (169) different shades of blue, I'll sew every block from different fabric. For this I got my inspiration from Robine. In her DJ all blocks are green... She has also very detailed descriptions of the blocks she has made. I like the idea...

Sunny, but frosty (-10 C) greetings...

PS. May Britt and Kris are organizing a CHALLENGE to courage all us to finish one project a month in this year.

I'm not sure if I can do it, but I'll try... So better to go now and find some WISP's and UFO's... It's easy;)))

Pay It Forward - Anna hyvän kiertää

I think this is a good way to start a new year...

Today I made a promise to take part a Pay It Forward -exchange. It means that I'll make something handmade for three people! I found it from Simone's blog.

Pay It Forward Exchange is based on the concept of the movie Pay it Forward (one of my favorite movies) where acts and deeds of kindness are done without expecting something in return, just passing it on, in the hope that the recipients of the acts of kindness are passed on.

The rules are: I will make and send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment to this post on the blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. The gift will be sent to you within 6 months.

What YOU have to do in return, is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.

So are you interested in...? I'm ready to pay it forward;)))
